Health Terminology

The use of controlled vocabulary supports the bibliographic description processes. In VHLwe use the structured trilingual vocabulary DeCS – Descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud.

  • DeCS

The structured trilingual vocabulary DeCS – Descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud (Spanish for Descriptors in Health Sciences), has been created by BIREME to be used in the index of papers from scientific journals, books, technical reports and other kinds of material, as well as to be used in the search and retrieval of subjects in LILACS, MEDLINE and other databases.

It has been developed from MeSH – Medical Subject Headings from the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) aiming to provide the use of a common terminology in a trilingual search, as a consistent and unique way to retrieve information unattached from the language.
