VHL History

The Virtual Health Library (VHL) has been consolidated as the Pan-American Health Organization – PAHO strategy of technical cooperation in scientific information in health in Latin America and the Caribbean, and is integrated by national systems that operate a network of libraries and documentation centers of health sciences. The VHL today is a result of the evolution conducted by the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME/PAHO/WHO) since its beginning, maintaining til the present days the technical cooperation in health information between countries in the region. In the 1990s, during the convergence of the knowledge management model and exchange of knowledge in health to the Internet paradigm as the main tool to produce and manage sources and flows of technical and scientific information in health, the IV Regional Congress of Health Sciences Information (CRICS4) presented the VHL model, in San José, Costa Rica.

In this session you will find several documents related to the VHL history, its evolution and actions in over a decade of operation.
